Meditation in the Garden

Join us among the birds and flowers to contemplate the word of God in the ancient practice of Lectio Divina.

Every Thursday morning from 8:30am-9:00am in June. No experience or preparation is necessary for this guided mediation. In the event of inclement weather, we will meet in the parlor.

Our Raymond Fellows

In 1883, Deacon Raymond established a Trust to hire a circuit-rider pastor to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout our conference. This year, we re-envisioned the Trust to provide three preaching fellowships to YDS students to focus more intensively on the art and craft of preaching while offering free pulpit supply to churches and pastors who welcome that support. The Raymond Fellows are available, free of charge, to support you and your congregation with pulpit supply.

You can contact Laurel Carr, laurel@godsacre.org if you would like to engage one of our Fellows for an in-person preaching engagement, or you can simply download and use any one of their sermons for your virtual services.

Meet Our Raymond Fellows

Natalie Owens-Pike

M.Div ’23, Yale Divinity School

Raised in Minneapolis, MN, Natalie and her husband Alex moved to New Haven this August to begin her path to UCC ministry at Yale Divinity School. Natalie was raised Unitarian Universalist and found belonging in the UCC after college. After graduating from Macalester College in 2011, Natalie became a teacher in rural Mississippi through the Teach for America program. She has worked for equity in education ever since, in both independent and public schools. She was most recently Executive Director of the Breakthrough Collaborative program in Minneapolis, providing academic enrichment for Minneapolis Public School students. While a member at Mayflower Church – Minneapolis, Natalie was a member of their Church Council and an Associate Minister Search Committee, a co-facilitator of the Mayflower Young Adults group, and a frequent summer guest preacher. Ministry has been on her heart for a long time, and her call to ministry is rooted in preaching. She loves to be a part of worship to proclaim what God is still speaking to us! She also loves to sing, cook, swim and canoe!

Alongside his studies, Zak has enjoyed interning at the Congregational Church of New Canaan for the past two years, where he has been able to preach, help facilitate Confirmation, and work with the Children’s Ministry. A cradle Baptist, current Congregationalist, and enthusiast for wherever the Lord leads, Zak is passionate about sharing the Gospel and being an agent of change in others’ lives.”

JaQuan is thrilled to be a member of the inaugural Raymond Fellowship cohort with God’s Acre. JaQuan is a Member in Discernment with the United Church of Christ and practices ministry that is love-centered, joy-seeking, trauma-informed, and justice-oriented. In their leisure, JaQuan enjoys jamming out to music, honing his yoga practice, tasting a new recipe, and noticing things bloom. Looking forward to attuning our hearts and minds to what God is saying at such a time as this!

Christmas Eve on God’s Acre

Christmas Eve on God’s Acre

We have made one adjustment to our Christmas Eve plans, due to high winds and safety concerns arounds the tents, our 11:00pm service will be held indoors with a capacity limit of 100. We will, however, livestream the Candlelight Service for anyone who would like to view can do so above.

We will continue to provide virtual and live-streamed worship all season long. While we will undoubtedly miss out on many Christmas traditions this year, the Deacons have decided to try something new. We hope that you will join us under the ‘Christmas-on-God’s-Acre’ tent this year.

We will be celebrating outside, 6ft distanced and wearing masks just as we did this summer – subject, of course, to all state and local regulations. Dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes. While we will be unable to sing, we WILL be able to be in community with one another, listen to wonderful music, and celebrate the Christmas story under the stars.

  • 4:00-4:30 pm – Outdoor Worship
  • 6:00-6:30 pm –  Outdoor Worship
  • 7:00-7:30 pm – Outdoor Worship
  • 11:00-11:30 pm – Candlelight Worship

In addition to these services, the Children’s Nativity Pageant will be safely recorded in advance and will be shown all evening in the youth tent.

VITALLY IMPORTANT: For our plans to work, we are counting on every church member and guest to wear a mask, to keep a safe distance, and to refrain from singing, as per the request and recommendation of the State of Connecticut and our Town Health Department.

Transformation Bible Study for the New Year

New Years’ offers clean slates and fresh starts.

Contact Marianna Kilbride, marianna@godsacredev.wpengine.com for the Zoom invite.

Nutrisystem and Peloton flood our screens with miraculous before and after images. But resolutions notoriously fail, and some of us have even given up on them. Here’s good news: the Bible is full of successful before/after profiles that stuck. Peter caves to a servant girl during Jesus’ trial, but a couple of months later speaks courageously to the court that condemned Jesus to death. Paul’s life turns on a dime on Damascus Road and stays turned. And contemporary neuroscience offers deep insights into how the After can stay.

Join our longtime friend Allen Hilton for six weeks letting scripture and science talk to us about transformation.
