Life Events in Our Church

We want to be there to witness God’s presence and promise throughout all of life’s big events and milestones, and are honored to celebrate and acknowledge them with you.

Baptisms

The Sacrament of Baptism in The Congregational Church of New Canaan requires the presence of the congregation and is reserved for members of our church. Our members firmly believe that the Sacrament of Baptism creates a covenant between the congregation and the baptized child. If the health of the child or other circumstances do not allow for baptism in front of the congregation, the ministers and Board of Deacons will consider exceptions to this policy.

Baptisms are typically performed on the last Sunday of each month, and up to three baptisms are allowed per service.

Our ministers require one meeting with the child’s parents in order to prepare for the baptism. No fees are charged for baptisms, but contributions may be made to the Church. Click here for the Baptism Information Form.

Weddings

We are pleased to perform weddings for Church members and members of their families. Before finalizing your wedding date, please call the Church Office to make sure the church and a minister are available. A date is only confirmed once the church has received a $150 deposit.

Our ministers require three premarital conferences with the prospective couple in order to prepare for the wedding.

Funerals, Memorial Services, and Interment

We encourage our members to make calm appraisal concerning an end-of-life service and final resting place. Our pastors are available to discuss your wishes and help with planning. We are happy to keep a record of your preferences, as well as any other documents related to end-of-life planning.

Our Ministers are available to conduct Funerals, Memorial Services, or Interments for church members and those connected to our church, subject to their availability and the Church’s schedule. They, along with the Director of Music Ministries and members of Church Staff, will require at least one meeting with members of the deceased’s family to plan the service. A schedule of fees for Memorial Services, Funerals, and Interments is available by contacting the Church Office.

Interment in the Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden was designed to provide a special place for prayer, meditation, worship services, weddings, baptisms, and for interring the ashes of our beloved dead.

Past and present members of The Congregational Church of New Canaan and their immediate families are eligible for interment. Ashes will be placed in the garden proper. No container may be used. No marker is permitted except for the standard granite marker, the cost of which will be borne by the family or estate of the deceased. The granite marker should be created according to guidelines available in the Church Office.
