Read: Romans 8:12–17

When we cry, “Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God . . . Romans 8:15b–16

How do we know that there is a God? How do we know that what the Bible tells us about Jesus is true? How firm is the foundation of our faith, really? The truthful answer, of course, is that there is no real way to know. There are times, however, when it feels as if deep down in the core of our being we are petitioning God, crying out for our Lord, or offering a word of thanksgiving. It might even surprise us when unexpectedly we feel the spirit within us craving something—something deep and true and foundational. That is our spirit reaching out to the Spirit of God . . . It is the creature longing for connection with the Creator. It is the cry of our human soul for our truest home. That inner desire is probably the closest thing we have to proof that our belief in God is well founded . . . It is our spirit bearing witness to the Almighty.

Do you sense God in your spirit?

Lord God, I am not sure I can fully explain what I feel . . . but within me there is a longing, a cry, a welling up of my spirit that craves connection with You. It almost feels physical in nature. I think it is my spirit calling out for You . . . or perhaps, my spirit responding to Your call. Whatever it is, I thank You for the sense of You that I have in my life. In Jesusname, I pray. AMEN.
