Read: Matthew 10:1–15

Take no gold, or silver, or copper in your belts, no bag for your journey, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for laborers deserve their food. Matthew 10:9–10

Jesus called the twelve disciples to him, and then sent them out on a missionary journey to heal the sick, tend to the tormented in spirit, and preach the good news throughout Israel. They were called to certain work, and they were called away for certain worries. Jesus didn’t want the disciples consumed with anxiety over making a living. All they had to do was to do the work assigned to them, and all their needs—not all their wants, but all the basic necessities of life—would be provided. Focus on the calling, let Jesus worry about your living!

If you just followed your calling, would you still worry about making a living?

Lord, what if I just did the work You assigned to me? Instead of worrying about making money and having the right wardrobe and living in the best house—what if I just did what You asked me to do? Imagine that. Do Your will, and You will provide for me. Help me to understand how easy life can be if I just follow Your direction. In Your name, I pray. AMEN.
