Guided Nature Walk with NCLT
May 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM

Ever wondered how to tell a beech tree from a birch tree? Did you know that Connecticut is home to over a half-dozen species of oaks? Then join New Canaan Land Trust's Executive Director and Yale Forestry graduate, Aaron Lefland, for a guided tree identification walk on the Land Trust’s GreenLink Trail. Along the way, Aaron will teach participants how to identify a number of native tree species using each tree’s leaf shape, branching pattern, and bark textures. Aaron will also discuss the basics of forest succession, and point out the various stages of forest development that are observable long the half-mile stretch of trail.

Participants will meet in the lower parking lot at Irwin Park, and be prepared for a one mile walk over flat, but sometimes uneven terrain.

While there is no program fee, it is hoped that participants might be willing to make a small donation to the New Canaan Land Trust in exchange for hosting the program, as a gesture of thanks. Any amount is appreciated.  Thank you.
