Read: Colossians 3:1–17

Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14

We spend a fair amount of time deciding what we will wear in the morning. We think about our schedules—what meetings and appointments we have—and we choose attire that seems appropriate for our interactions. We dress differently if we have an interview than if we plan on spending the day working in the yard. Clothing is so important to us that we might even get mildly annoyed if we can’t find what we were planning to wear.

The Christians in Colossae were told that they were supposed to dress in love. Love was supposed to be their daily attire, and love is a choice that is perfect for every occasion. Love does not clash with any clothing choice—it even goes with plaid! Love never goes out of style. And when you decide to clothe yourselves in love, everyone is able to see it. Perhaps you become a trendsetter—your style encouraging others to start dressing in love too!

How do you choose what to wear in the morning?

Lord, I spend more time deciding on shoes and slacks than I do about what demeanor I will wear throughout the day. In fact, I spend far more time thinking about how I look than how I will choose to act. Why is that? I know that is not a priority that reflects the faith I claim to believe and practice. Help me to consider my attitude as much as my attire. Help me to wear my “Sunday best” at all times—not my most fashionable clothes, but the best of my faith: love and compassion. In Jesusname, I pray. AMEN.
