Read: Psalm 5
I will bow down toward Your holy temple in awe of You. Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness . . . ; make Your way straight before me. Psalm 5:7 & 8
Anyone can give thanks to God when times are good—though we often don’t. We might remember to count our blessings around a Thanksgiving table, but more often than not, when we feel well, we forget God. It is when our hearts ache or when our disappointments pile up or when we have fallen into difficult circumstances that we turn to God and plead. There is no question that God receives more pleading than praise from our hearts and our lips.
It is in moments of trial that we are reminded of the undeniable truth that God is the one we turn to in times of trouble. God is the one we search for when we feel lost. God is the one we bow to when we have been broken in pieces. Often humbled by the demands of our lives, we turn to God trusting—as much as we are able—that God rewards righteousness and condemns wickedness. We trust that if we turn from our sin and bow our lives before the God of all creation, we will be led down the right road, and our crooked little lives will be made straight.
How can you bow and bend your will to God today?
Lord, I like to stand straight up, confident in my own abilities, trusting in my own insight, and ready to exercise my freedom by doing whatever I choose. As a result, I live a sin-stained life and I know it. Lord God, You love right living and You abhor wickedness. Help me to bow to You and Your will for me today, so that I can experience blessing and live a life that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. AMEN.
